CDO Cited as Pizza Hut's 2006 Supplier of the YearMAY 24, 2007

Philippine-based meat processor CDO-Foodsphere, Inc. has bested other Philippine companies to win prestigious 2006 Supplier of the Year Award from an international group that runs the Pizza hut, Taco Bell, KFC, A&W & Long John Silvers restaurant chains.

CDO received the international foodservice recognition from TRI (Yum! Restaurant International), the world's largest restaurant chain with over 34,000 restaurants worldwide during a gala dinner held in Bali, Indonesia on April 18.

YRI developed a global management system that sets supplier, tracking, assessment and recognition (STAR) benchmarks for its suppliers' performance across all operating regions.

The star benchmarks provide a common framework for the management of quality systems, process and food safety standards for Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants.

In bestowing the Philippines Supplier of the Year award to CDO-Foodsphere, YRI recalled that CDO became a supplier in 1994, when Pizza Hut Philippines was on its way to an aggressive expansion program.

"Then we needed a supplier that could give us not only high standard quality products but cost efficient products as well. Through the years, they have growth their business and have improved their manufacturing plant by investing in a modern facility and embracing technology." YRI said, referring to CDO's rise to the top of the meat processing industry in the Philippines.

"All of this hardwork and critical business decisions has earned them three consecutive years as ‘Meat Processing Plant of the Year' given no less than by National Meat Inspection Commission (NMIC), the Philippine agency tasked to monitor operations of meat processing plants in the country," it added.

The NMIC named CDO s the best meat processing establishment on a national level in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

CDO vice president for manufacturing Amy Cuna together with quality assurance manager Madelyn Rejano and foodservice supervisor Aby Ramos received the award from Andy Skowronski, director, Supply Chain Management Asia Franchise; Eva Wang, R&D / QA manager for YRI Asia region; and Dolly Cabagbag, R&D / QA manager for Pizza Hut/Taco Bell Philippines.

"This recognition was indeed a glorious accomplishment for CDO through YRI's standard of excellence," Ramos said.

She added CDO bested bigger companies/suppliers as its ranked first in food safety, cost performance and in business relations categories.

"We received all these, because we put our customers first in everything we do," Ramos said.

Cuna attributed the award to CDO's high-quality standards, which are considered as the best in the Philippines.

CDO has been classified by the Department of Agriculture trough the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) as an "AAA" meat processing establishment. Being included in the category means having a clean and efficient meat processing plant that is globally competitive.

Cuna said products supplied to Pizza Hut had passed the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system, which means it has complied with the most stringent food safety rules and procedures.
